چکیده

In this paper, we develop an autonomous construction system in which self-contained ground robots build a protective barrier bymeans of compliant pockets. We present a stochastic control algorithm based on two biological mechanisms – stigmergy and templates – that takes advantage of compliant pockets for autonomous construction with single and multiple robots. The control algorithm guides the robot(s) to build the protective barrier without relying on a central planner, an external computer, or a motion capture system. We propose a statistical model to represent the structures built with the compliant pockets, and we provide a set of criteria for assessing the performance of the proposed system. To demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed system, real-robot and simulation experiments were carried out. The results show the viability of the proposed autonomous construction system. © 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Cooperative Control of Mobile Robots in Creating a Runway Platform for Quadrotor Landing

Multi-agent systems are systems in which several agents accomplish a mission in a cooperative manner. In this paper, a novel idea for the construction of a movable runway platform based on multi-agent systems is presented. It is assumed that an aerial agent (quadrotor) decides to make an emergency landing due to reasons such as a decrease in energy level or technical failure, while there is no ...

A Human-Like Robot Hand and Arm with Fluidic Muscles: Biologically Inspired Construction and Functionality

Humanoid robots are fascinating from two points of view, firstly their construction and secondly because they lend life to inanimate objects. The combination of biology and robots leads to smoother and compliant movement which is more pleasant for us as people. Biologically inspired robots embody non-rigid movement which are made possible by special joints or actuators which give way and can bo...
